window sill- Hammond, In.

Have you ever been in the middle of doing something and wondered briefly if it was normal? Like if others would look at you strangely if they could see you. For instance, I have been known to spontaneously burst into song. Not like actual songs, but quick lil free style numbers about whatever I happen to be doing in the present moment. Sometimes there are dance moves. I do not know if others do this. I slightly fear you may be reading this and thinking I am a loon but I find it pretty amusing and figure it is worth the stigma. I do it often enough that the other day Myah answered me in verse. I was trying to get her to go to the washroom after school and spouted this reggae diddy ” What time is it? What time is it? It’s potty time, it’s potty time”. She responded with, ” I went at school, I went at school, It’s not potty time, it’s not potty time.” First, can I give props to the munchkin for her quick come back, in tune and everything. Second, I thought about how funny that my quirk is now her norm. She has been raised in a world where washing dishes can turn into a production. It is funky and I kind of like that.

See when I was a kid, it was all about fitting in. I would like to point out that this was a bit of challenge when you are a girl with a funny name. Oh how I hated my name back then. No one could get it right. It sounded way too much like martian and margarine, and it made me stand out when all I wanted to do was blend. I would have given anything to be a Katie or a Jennie but alas I was a Marjon. Oh how I wish I could go back, I would tell little me that my quirkiness would become one of my favorite aspects of me. I believe way too much energy is spent hiding our true selves or trying to be something we are not. Today’s message is about celebrating who we are, honoring what we have to offer those around us, and having the courage to share our authenticity with others. Celebrate your weirdness people! Sing a song about it if you want to, Myah and I are available as backup singers should you need us (o;

Peace out
